10:10 Commitment

Anabas signed up to 10:10 in December 2009 to focus our efforts against what we feel is both a challenging but ultimately achievable target, with the hope that our involvement may go some way to raising awareness of a major issue and have an impact on Anabas far beyond 2010.
As a growing organisation our impact may not be directly significant.  But through the awareness created and by supporting the right attitudes of our people, the effect of our involvement will be much more widespread.  This page, with mini blog entries from Doug Bacon, lead 10:10 Champion, will track the key points and challenges of our efforts throughout the year and highlight other idea’s we’ve seen.
We want this to be a collaboration and get people using everything at their disposal as that is the best way to ensure the 10:10 campaign is a success.  So if you have any questions about our involvement or maybe you want to get your company involved, get in touch by emailing 1010@anabas.co.uk and we can discuss our experiences.
10% is widely accepted as the amount needed to kick start the ongoing process leading up to the more far off political targets of 2020 and 2050.  While 10% target can be achieved fairly easily through a reduction in travel and energy use the campaign is also hoping to provoke new thinking and ideas that will carry forward continual reduction beyond 2010.
For more information about the campaign visit the 10:10 website, click here.
February
Data collection continues this month, pulling old electricity invoices from the archive to verify the figures has formed a large part of the previous few weeks.  While not impacting our energy usage, directly, we have started a Ride to Work initiative for our Stokesley office as a trial.  Although take up of the scheme has been hampered by the snow.  I think leading by example will be the best way to kick start it, find out in March how I’m getting on.
A weekly internal bulletin was launched this week, to keep everybody up to date with the progress and contribute to the awareness factor.
January
Welcome to the first update of our 10:10 commitment.  For Anabas, the year started with the appointment of 10:10 Champions in key areas of the business, with the aim to create an ideas forum from which the champions can then lead and brief their own individual areas.
A key impact related area is the first steps in getting a Smart Meter installed in our North East office.  The landlord has responsibility in our London office, however we are in discussions about what can be done.  The Smart Meter planned install is for the beginning of March.
Data collection on energy and fuel use is a focus moving into February, before we define our base year for the online management area on the 10:10 website.  We’re also pleased to be collaborating with FMX magazine on their 10:10 focus, click here for more information.
Encouraging the right attitudes amongst our employees is key to Anabas’ success and in that respect I do feel the press focus and attention has drifted slightly with the weather and ongoing economic uncertainty.  The awareness side is key to 10:10’s success overall and I hope it picks up a little more in the coming months.
December
With our sign up complete we begun to communicate the 10:10 commitment throughout Anabas.  Awareness about the campaign was lower than anticipated, but certainly sets a benchmark for moving forward.
